Attention to detail is one of the most important qualities in a home inspector. That may seem like an obvious statement, but oftentimes, potential clients will call and will ask us to do an inspection on “just the big stuff”. But that is kind of an odd way of looking at it.

Finding defects in a home is kind of like finding a needle in a haystack. If the defect were “big”, so to speak, then likely the seller, the buyer, or one of the agents would have already seen it. People don’t pay us to find the obvious issues – they pay us to find and recognize the issues that others miss.

For instance, anyone can find a roof leak when the ceiling is wet. But we find leaks that might be in a far corner of an attic that no one would think of. We may be very familiar with the houses in that neighborhood and be able to identify where issues typically hide.

So don’t settle for someone who just finds “the big stuff”, hire a detail-oriented home inspector such as us.
